Breathwork refers to a variety of types of breathing exercises or techniques that involve intentionally changing your breathing patterns that are done to improve mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. Over time, these patterns of controlled breathing will allow you to control your nervous system and access different states of consciousness.
Meditation is a mindfulness practice that is used to help you ground yourself in the present moment. It is used to help people observe their thoughts and access states of stillness and tranquility
Breathwork involves active breathing with controlled inhales, exhales and holds. These practices can be used to shift your body into either a more sympathetic or parasympathetic state. Meditation on the other hand is a more passive method meant to calm the mind and enhance focus and clarity through stillness.
Each session is approximately an hour long and is customized to address your particular needs. The active breathing portions of the session last anywhere between 20-35 minutes followed by 10-15 minutes of meditation. The last 10 minutes is dedicated to unpacking and integrating the experience.
Breathwork is not recommended for people with a history of aneurisms, cardiovascular problems, high blood pressure, or seizures. Pregnant women should also consult their doctors before engaging in breathwork practices.
